How to Become a Pickleball Champ and Win Every Time

Pickleball is a fast-paced, popular summer game that’s relatively new, but growing in popularity each year.

The game was invented in 1965 on an island in Washington, by three fathers bored with their usual summer pastimes. Today, the sport has spread across the U.S. and into Canada, Europe, and even parts of Asia.

Anyone can enjoy a round of pickleball. But if you want to master the pickleball rules and take out a few opponents, you’ll need to do a little learning and a lot of practice. Keep reading to learn a few tips to help you become a pickleball champion.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Professional athletes are certainly born with some level of athleticism and natural talent. But those attributes alone aren’t enough for them to succeed on the field, court, or track.

Instead, professional athletes in every sport spend an average of 5 to 6 hours a day training, for up to 6 days a week.

You certainly don’t need to put in that kind of time to play pickleball well. However, you do need to take a cue from the pros and put in some practice time.

As with anything in life, the more that you practice, the better you’ll be!

Warm Up First

Another thing professional athletes know is the importance of a good warmup before any workout.

Even if you’re just looking to enjoy a casual game of pickleball with friends, you should always take the time to warm up your body first.

Warming up is not just good for your muscles, but is important for your heart and lungs as well. It dilates your blood vessels so that blood will start flowing, reducing stress on your heart. Your muscles will literally warm, which helps you avoid overstretching and causing a strained or pulled muscle.

Your warm-up can also help you mentally prepare for your workout, helping you focus, remember your strategy, and activate your skillset.

Get the Right Gear

As with any sport, having the right gear can go a long way towards helping you to be successful. On the pickleball court, there are a few important things you should have.

Of course, pickleball paddles are a must. But another important tool that new players may overlook is the right shoes. Choosing a pair of the top pickleball shoes will give you a better grip on the course and help you stay agile on your feet.

Always Keep Your Eye on the Ball

Any pickleball champions will tell you that one of the most important things you can do in a game is to keep your eye on the ball.

As it zips, dips, and bounces across the court, do your best to keep your eye trained on it. This will help you make contact between the ball and your paddle, every time.

Becoming a Pickleball Champion

Becoming a pickleball champion takes work. But with lots of practice, the right gear, a good warmup, and some focus, you’ll be winning more games than you ever thought possible.
